After 20 years, Adriana Lima hung Victoria’s Secret Angel’s wings and became visibly effusive while taking part in her final parade for Victoria’s Secret fashion show on Thursday.
Dressed in glistening transparent tops and light blue lingerie, the 37-year-old Brazilian supermodel got a standing acclamation while she walks through the runway for the last time. She paused like when one is meditating and seemed to have tears in her eyes as she stopped to thank the heartening fans.
She posted on Instagram attaching a video of some of her previous performances at Victoria’s Secret show: “Dear Victoria, Thank you for showing me the world, sharing your secrets, and most importantly not just giving me wings but teaching me to fly. And all the [heart emoji] to the best fans in the [earth emoji]! Love, Adriana,”
Lima, the mother of two kids, was the oldest model and Angel (spokesmodel of the company) of Victoria’s Secret. She has made her way down the catwalk at the annual fashion show organized by the lingerie’s brand since 1999 at age 18, except for one. That was in 2009 while she was pregnant with her other daughter, Valentina.
There had been rumors that Lima plans to drop the wings. In November 2017, she told people she intends to walk at least her twentieth show: It’s nature. I’m working out, I’m healthy, so let’s see how the body is going to turn out. But I enjoy it. So let’s say 20.”
That same November, Victoria’s former secret angel Alessandra Ambrosio dropped her wings after the 2017 edition of the show. She spent 17 years with the company.

A month later, Lima posted on Instagram, a post that sparked fresh rumor about her retirement: “I had received a call for the possibility of filming a sexy video of me to be posted and shared in social media. Even though I have done many of this type, something had changed in me, when a friend approached me to share that she was unhappy with her body. Then it made me think…. that every day in my life, I wake up thinking, how do I look? Was I going to be accepted in my job?”
“And at that moment I realized that majority of woman probably wake up every morning trying to fit in a stereotype that society/social media/fashion etc. imposed…. I thought that’s not a way of living and beyond that…. that’s not physically and mentally healthy, so I decided to make that change,” she added. “I will not take [off] my clothes anymore for [an] empty cause….. #Embraceyouself #natureisbeautiful #naturalissexy #LOVEYOU.”
