Despite alleged sex pervert Bryan Singer retaining his directorial credit, the upcoming Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody looks like it’s going to be a fun time at the movies. Many of us never got to see Freddie Mercury and Queen live and so the notion of going to a movie theater next month and catching the closest thing humanly possible is quite exciting.
Rami Malek is a dead ringer for Mercury, especially with that fake overbite, so I’m really looking forward to seeing what he does in the role of one of the greatest vocalists that ever lived. The guy playing Brian May is also a pretty spot-on bit of casting, though I imagine that wig’s doing a solid 40% of the work on that one. It’s also funny to see little Tim Murphy from Jurassic Park as bassist John Deacon.
All in all I’d say the good outweighs the bad here, most of that “bad” coming from Singer’s involvement. The guy straight up disappeared from the set and Universal had to hire someone else to finish the movie. That someone else turned out to be Dexter Fletcher, who was getting ready to start work on the Elton John biopic Rocketman, inviting comparisons beyond the obvious between the two films. I wonder if it’ll hurt the latter’s box office prospects.
Bohemian Rhapsody will rock you beginning on November 2.
